If Somebody Don’ Like You

There was a trending video early 2022 of a song, “If Somebody don’ like you that is their business, beloved”. I listened to it on repeart then it got in my head on repeat. Funny thing, that tiktok brought me healing….who’d have thunk?

Not sure what it was about in my past lifetimes, a thing I do believe in, but in this lifetime the worst kind of threat in my youth was that ‘everyone in the family knows and thinks you are a looser” or something to that effect. I was not sanctionned or approved of or accepted for who I am…. that was baggage I carried. There was more added on socially as I grew into an adult.

As a teacher of yoga teachers, I can so clearly see the light of the divine in my students. I encourage them to shine on, that the world needs them to be them! They are leaders of self-healing and love warriors. I would wonder, how they got damaged to the point that they could not see their own glorious selves and how blessed I was to be their teacher.

The 1minute tiktok video came into my life at the young age of 53… and I could feel the healing… I was still vibrating this energy, this fear of not being accepted, understood and attracted plenty of people, including yoga people who were hyper critical of me and everything I created in my yoga world my studio, my trainings etc. I also had wonderful people who said that I inspired them, they loved what I had created, and that their lives had changed for the better. They said, no words could adequately express their appreciation.

Yet, It was the burden of the critics that I carried like a cross, dragging it across my soul. I could have, drapped myself in the praise… but no.

Then came that duet TikTok from @aim_cking and @kajabrielle…. and I began to look at myself the way that I look at my students.. yes I am quirky, yes I do not fit into a neat and tidy box. BUT…The way that I love whether it be yoga, my family, my friends, or my home, cat or anything else - is truly what defines me. If someone cannot see my real superpower, then I am better off without them.

Fair warning for those who believe that the yoga world is one that is safe from our baggage. It is not a place to escape to. If we do not work on ourselves, this includes seeking professional help if needed… then we bring our past with us whereever we go. And so does everyone else in the yoga realm. Some of the most vicious people towards me in my adult life, were yoga peeps. As were some who shone the most light in my life…
